I believe that Dallas Hyde oozes each quality of a Renaissance man from every pore of his body. This excellent human being is skilled in many different areas including but certainly not limited to music, writing, painting, and acting.
Years before the paths of Dallas and I even crossed he was honing his musical ability on the guitar. Upon becoming somewhat proficient on the guitar he began writing original music and lyrics and took up singing. After years of practice Dallas has blossomed into one of the most talented musicians I’ve ever seen.
Dallas’ first pieces of writing were probably school assignments that I’m sure earned him the praise of both his teachers and peers. But eventually he began writing simply for himself. His first personal exploration of his own personal writing ability probably came in the lyrics of a song. Over the years Dallas’ ability as a lyricist has grown to epic proportions and is simply unbelievable for a person of his age.
Recently Dallas has taken up painting as a way of self expression. His first paintings were crude pieces of art that at first glance don’t seem to be that much. But upon careful examination and reflection one begins to realize that they are simply masterpieces worthy of a place in any art exhibit.
During his senior year, Dallas has joined the Drama Club. Dallas immediatly soared into an important role in the clubs upcoming play. Dallas’ epic portrayal of the incredibly annoying Prince Dauntless with without a doubt be worthy of an academy award.
Overall, I can think of no better example of a Renaissance man then Dallas Hyde.

A BROKEN MIRROR!!!!! RUN FOR THE HILLS!!!!!
I’m sure that everyone has heard of the old supertition about breaking a mirror. You are supposed to be cursed to seven years of bad luck if you break one of this apparently very powerful objects. I haven’t really ever felt too strongly about this particular superstition and don’t feel that there is very much to it.

Better hope this ferocious feline doesn't cross your path...
Imagine this scenario, you are driving along a country road when all of the sudden a black cat runs across the road in front of you. You immediatly think, “Oh my gosh! What an adorable cat! Thank goodness I didn’t hit it!” Oh but brothers and sisters you are wrong. That cat has just condemned you to some absolutly horrible luck and you can count on it. That is unless you immediatly use your finger to make an X on the windshield of your car. But even then it could be too late…
I thought the amazing lyre bird was pretty much amazing. I think it’s incredible that it can instantly mimic almost any sound it hears. The chainsaw really dazzled me. I could see how someone could make an arguement that it is bad that these birds are exposed to the sounds of civilization long enough to convincingly mimic them. But as far as I can tell, these sounds are helping male lyre birds get together with female lyre birds and if that is the worst thing that happens, then I’m ok with it.
Well, I got six out of ten correct on the sorting people quiz. I thought it was fun and I tried to just go with my first impressions of people. This, however, didn’t prove to be a very helpful strategy as demonstrated by my results. I found that I classified people based very much on their facial hair and possibly even their expressions. I’m afraid I may be a bit more racist then I’d thought.
The media overall conveys an extremely obscured message about the way a person should look. According to the media a woman should be “skinny as a rail” with the exception of certain features. Basically resembling that of a Barbie doll. In order to obtain this “Barbie doll” image a woman might end up turning to an eating disorder or a crash diet, both of which can have extremely negative side effects. The media can also increase feelings of depression in women who already have a negative opinion of their appearances as a certain website that I stumbled upon shows. Women who have high self esteem, however, are probably not going to be affected by the shallow opinion of mass media.
Men are also represented in an unrealistic way in the media. They are expected to be broad shouldered with a muscular (and constantly oiled?) upper body. I believe this is a horrible representation of men because in order to obtain the “perfect male body” you’d basically be forced to take some sort of steroid or drug and that can lead to all sorts of problems.
In conclusion, I believe that the media is unfair in it’s representation of men and women.
I’ve never really blogged before so I don’t really have any thoughts about liking it or disliking it. I assume that it will a new and refreshing way of doing assignments and I hope I’m correct. I could, however, see me completely forgetting to do the assignments in which blogging will be no fun at all. But, like I said, I’m optimistic about it and hope it’s fun.
